In a partnership between OpportunIndy, Don’t Sleep, Bloom Project, and Ivy Tech’s Black Students United, there will be a screening of the documentary “13th” and, afterwards, a small discussion. The documentary focuses on the evolution of slavery and the “exception” to the 13th Amendment. This documentary covers a variety of issues such as institutional racism, mass incarceration, prison industrial complex, and the political movements that targeted communities of color. The discussion will focus on the impact of these issues on our youth and finding the parallels of mass incarceration to the school-to-prison pipeline and implicit biases within our educational system. We are seeking, specifically, high school students and their parents to join us in this screening and discussion.
