...Keeping Naptown Awake Since 2015


On the evening of June 17, 2015, a mass shooting took place at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in downtown Charleston, South Carolina, United States. The church is one of the United States’ oldest black churches and has long been a site for community organizing around civil rights. Nine people were killed, including the senior pastor, the Rev. Clementa C. Pinckney, a state senator; Depayne Middleton Doctor, Cynthia Hurd, Cynthia Hurd, Ethel Lance, Tywanza Sanders, The Rev. Dr. Daniel Simmons Sr., Sharonda Coleman-Singleton, and Myra Thompson.Join us in a moment of reflection for the lives taken at the hand of hate and the families and community impacted in the wake of this brutal act of domestic terrorism.
